Classic Games

Gambling houses, home to casino classic games, in some form have been present in most established societies throughout the world for centuries. The first establishments that are similar to a modern day casino opened in Venice around the 1630’s, the most famous of which being the Casino di Venezia.

Other countries followed suit and this form of permanently housed gambling activity eventually evolved into the global casinos which we know and love today.

The games played within the walls of the casinos have been around in various forms for even longer. Let’s take a look in closer detail at 4 classic games.

Blackjack

Sometimes also known as twenty-one, Blackjack is thought to be the most widely played casino banking game in the world. The first recorded evidence of Blackjack dates back to around the year 1601 in both France and Spain.

As the game is proceeds, players compete directly with the dealer rather than against each other which could be the reason the game is so popular. Blackjack is played with one or more decks of 52 cards with the main objective being to beat the dealer.

To do this players must either get 21 points with 2 cards, called a Blackjack, or reach a total closer to 21 than the dealer without exceeding it. Any total over 21 means that the player, dealer or both have gone ‘bust’.

Today, any online casino worth its salt will have several versions of Blackjack available to play. Sometimes these will be live action versions with a video link to a human dealer allowing the players to participate in the game in real time.

Craps

Craps is a dice game where players wager on the outcome of the roll of a pair of dice. When played in a casino as opposed to on the street players are wagering money against a ‘bank’ and not each other, another of our classic games.

In the casino version players will wager bets via a specially laid out design on felt table covering. The table itself can look a bit like a bathtub in design with high sides to contain the dice when they are rolled or ‘shot’ at the table.

Players can place bets on the pass line or don’t pass line depending on their playing style. These are sometimes called the win and don’t win lines. The outcome of 2 dice added together determines the outcome of the “come-out” round and who wins what, depending on where their chips were placed.

Roulette

Did you know that the massively popular casino game Roulette is named after the French word meaning little wheel? No, us neither.

It’s such a simple game that anyone can jump in and start playing with little or no experience. Players may choose to place bets on either a single number or a range of numbers, a colors (red or black), or odd or even numbers. There’s also the option to wager on numbers are which are high (19–36) or low (1–18).

The croupier spins the Roulette wheel in one direction, then spins a ball in the opposite on a circular track which runs around the outside of the wheel. The ball slows and falls onto the wheel and into one of 37 colored and numbered pockets. This determines which number or colour is the winner.

Baccarat

This is one of the most classic games which can look a little bit complicated to but is actually very easy to play and massively popular in on and offline casinos worldwide. You can bet 3 ways in Baccarat, on yourself, on the banker (or casino) or on a tie in the game.

Two cards are dealt to each player plus the banker once all bets have been placed. The cards have their face values 2 to 9 and 10, Jack, Queen and King are worth 0 with Ace worth 1.

The total of the 2 cards are added up and the closest to 9 wins. If the total is double digits then the first digit it dropped, so 13 would actually count as 3. In certain situations a 3rd card would be dealt but players don’t have to concern themselves with the exact rules of this to help keep the game nice and simple.
